What is Green Laning?
Green Laning is using your vehicle to access the countries network of so-called “Green Lanes”.
Green Lanes are untarmacked roads which can be found all over the UK. They fall in to 2 categories BOATs and UCRs. BOATs are Byways Open to All Traffic and UCRs are UnClassified Roads.
Generally speaking these are historic roads which can provide lots of enjoyment for people who wish to drive them. Giving us access to beautiful scenery, challenging drives and places which are inaccessible to normal vehicles.
However, you MUST NOT grab your nearest OS map and set off driving every BOAT and UCR on there. You MUST check they are legal to drive. To learn how to do this read our route planning page.
